Mullingar is doing most of the county's building
736 of Westmeath's 1,717 completions went up around Mullingar, 42.9% of the county's total. New dwellings commencing construction from 1 November 2019 come under the 2019 Part L standard, which brought in the near zero energy building requirement, and new houses with a parking space at the dwelling have had to be provided with electric vehicle charging infrastructure since the 2021 regulations. Athlone is the county's other centre
497 completions were recorded around Athlone, making it the second half of a genuinely two-centre county. The town sits on the Shannon and functions as the largest urban centre in the midlands, with a housing mix that runs from older terraced streets near the river out to newer estate stock on the edges. That mix means the two ends of our work sit close together in Athlone: a rewire question in the old core and a capacity question in an estate, sometimes on the same day.
Moate, Kinnegad and the rest of the county
246 completions around Moate and 236 around Kinnegad account for most of the remainder. Kinnegad's growth is commuter-driven, sitting on the Dublin side of the county, and its stock skews newer. Moate and the country around it hold more of the county's 7,024 pre-1961 homes, where rubber cable and earthless lighting circuits are genuine possibilities rather than remote ones. Neither is a big enough market to justify its own crew, so we cover the whole county on the same runs and always have.
